So... fan art of Optimus Prime's design from the movie. Not much to say I guess. It took me a very long time to draw this, but I still don't like it. Why? Well, I did a search on DeviantArt, and judging by the deviations that came up, it would seem that every Transformers fan and their mother can draw Optimus Prime with unbelievable skill. I didn't watch Transformers at any stage of my childhood, so I'm not what you would call a "fan." I think Optimus Prime is one of the coolest cartoon characters ever, and I did watch Beast Wars if that counts for anything. So while I couldn't tell you the names of the Autobots or the Decepticons from the original cartoon, and I don't get stomach cramps from watching "Transformers: Armada" while I compare it to the original series, I have an appreciation for all of the designs from their inception to the movie.

Okay, maybe I had a little to say on the subject. Anyway, there is a reason I drew this. I wanted to draw a short comic based on a scene from the Transformers movie. Since it's from the movie, I thought "Gee. Why don't I just use the Optimus design from the movie. But instead of just approximating it from memory or doodling a rough, undetailed version, I'll draw a close-ish replica with as many details as possible intact and decide what I'll omit for the comic design afterwards." While it seemed like a good idea in theory, in practice it just gave me an infinitely greater appreciation for the talented people that had to design that monstrous thing. I still have to draw Sam, but since he's merely a human, his drawing will probably take about ten minutes tops.
Normally with sketches made for future deviations, I wouldn't submit them unless they were colored or something (like my Prac Nack drawing). But this thing took me a long time, and some peers think it looks pretty neat, so I've made an exception.
